About the picture (11kb)

With the arrival of the good weather, the animals (bestas) are led down from places high up in the Galician mountains to the specially prepared corrals or curros where they are branded and their manes and tails cut. What for many centuries was no more than an annual chore involving the owners of the wild horses and their family and friends who helped them, has become an immensely popular festival, the approximate calendar of events being the following:

  1. 2nd Sunday in May; La Valga in Bayona-Oya (Pontevedra)
  2. 1st Sunday in June: Torroña in Bayona-Oya (Pontevedra)
  3. 2nd Sunday in June: Mougás in Bayona-Oya (Pontevedra)
  4. 3rd Sunday in June: Morgadanes in Gondomar (Pontevedra)
  5. Last Sunday in June: Curro de Capelada in Cedeira (La Coruña)
  6. 1st Saturday, Sunday and Monday in July: Sabucedo in San Lorenzo de Sabucedo-La Estrada (Pontevedra)
  7. 1st Sunday in July: Candaoso in the parish of San Andrés de Boimente Vivero (Lugo)
